She mentioned that she wanted a wall clock for the kitchen, I begged to be be the one to find the perfect clock for her.
Mission and a half!

The rest of her living area has a black/white colour scheme and the walls have a collection of the famous 'Top of the Rock' images (google 'Lunch on a skyscraper' if you're not sure what I mean) which she collected when she was in New York.
I decided I definitely wanted something personal/customised, and chose etsy as my store choice. I mean, who doesn't love something from etsy? It's like supported the small business of a friend.
Much to my delight, I discovered this store...

Vinylclockwork is run by the lovely Scott (you'll see why I think he's so lovely soon!) who turns old vinyl records (preferably scratched ones) into beautiful clocks.
He makes two designs...
This design he calls the 'Numbers' design. As you can see it was made from an old Cher album.
And this one is called the 'Circle' design, made from an old A Space Odyssey album.
Can you guess which one I chose?
I'll give you a hint. Can you see a familiar face hiding under the 9 in the 'Circle' Design?
Once I saw the hidden Mickey I was sold.
Now the hard part, choosing an artist! She's a fan of the Beatles, but those albums are hard enough to come by as it is. I then wondered if there were many Disney albums around...
A quick trip to ebay showed me that yes, there definitely were and some were very reasonably priced ($0.99 anyone?). A short message off to Scott confirmed he would make one from a supplied album and that I could get it posted directly to him.
Score.
I bid on a Disney Dumbo record, for $0.99 + $6 postage. Ebay seller took their time, but Scott had it in his hot little hands about a week later.
And it looked like this!
Needless to say, I was as shattered as the record :-(
Scott came to my rescue though and offered to source a record from his local record shop. Not Dumbo, but 'It's a small world'. Happy enough with that and definitely can't complain about the service!
Scott made the clock and had it on it's way to Australia within a few days. It arrived on my sister's doorstep just over a week after he found the replacement record for me.
