Captured in Europe #1 - English Poppies

42 days, 9 countries, 8730 photographs...countless travel memories. I want to share with you some of my favourite moments from the trip, going beyond the photographs to tell you the stories behind them and give you a little taste of Europe...this could be a long series...
Poppies and Canola
Date: Saturday July 6
Location: Barton-upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire, UK

My grandmother's 77th birthday, we had spent the morning in Cottingham, the village she grew up in, and were making our way south. Nanna had requested the route just so we could cross the Humber Bridge, though it's more than 30 years old it was still a novelty for her. While crossing the bridge (which you can see in the next photograph), Mum squealed with delight from the passenger seat beside me at a field of poppies she could see in the distance. She begged for us to find them, especially as I hadn't pulled the car over earlier for her to photograph a tree she found interesting (or maybe it was a horse...).

Poppies, Canola and the Humber Bridge
I pulled off at the next exit and spent twenty minutes driving through fields and performing U-turns on country roads in an attempt to find the poppies. I even followed one lane right up to and around someone's cottage, but we got there in the end. For anyone who might be trying to find them in future, here's a helpful Google Maps link.

The detour was definitely worth the effort, photographing the poppies (and the canola) was one of my favourite moments on the trip. It was a special place to share with Mum and Nanna as well, Nanna kept a pressed poppy with her for the rest of her trip.
This photo is one of Mum's, I'm not that talented with selfies...
This was a personal moment I wanted to share, my next post will have a more European flavour, I'm thinking Paris on Bastille Day?
