Don't uncross you fingers for us just yet.
First, I'm sorry again for being so slack with blogging lately, it's hard to think of things to blog at the moment. I'm also sorry for not replying to the comments everyone has been nice enough to leave, generally because there's only so many times you can write 'Thanks' after a comment before you feel stupid.
So, the bad news first.
I got a phone call on Tuesday and was unluckily told that I wasn't successful in getting the 'Job' in Queensland. The position was exactly like the one I hold here in Melbourne and it was likely that most people applying for the position would be external...so my years worth of experience at this company would make me a winner.
Usually.
Unfortunately, the guy who previously held the position, who left earlier in the year for greener pastures has decided that the grass isn't greener and reapplied for the job. It was apparently a close call but in the end his four years beat my one.
Processing for the 'Senior Jobs' I applied for is still ongoing, however, the person who broke the news to me on Tuesday is aware of who those positions will be going to and didn't leave me with much hope that I'm in the running for the Queensland Senior Job but there is a slight chance I might get something here in Melbourne.
So where does that leave us?
If you remember my table from last time it now looks something like this:
Stu doesn't really have any possible job applications going for Melbourne at the moment but there are still a few possibilities for him in Brisbane and even one in Newcastle. Though based on past experience we aren't holding out too much hope for any of the positions he's applied for.
If he does get something in Brisbane it will put is in an odd position again and I may decide to look for work outside of my current company (though I would be very sad to do so). Otherwise, out situation doesn't really change much.
SJ hasn't worked since he lost his bike courier role and we were waiting to hear on my possible job options before acting on that, it looks like now he will have to find another minimum wage position to help cover our living costs.
So what's the good news? Well now I know what's happening with my life over the next few months I've relaxed quite a bit. I was having trouble sleeping and finding it hard to focus or care about a lot of things. I think that's fixed a bit more now.
I also called my mother last night and told her the whole story, didn't see much point in keeping it a secret any longer.
And....there's a very, very, very slim chance that I will get one of these positions in Melbourne and at a later date be able to move to Brisbane and be based there. It's not something that usually happens but the guy who called me on Tuesday is someone an exception has been made for, and he's rallying for me. It's not likely, but it's nice to know that options may appear in the future for me.
So keep your fingers crossed that things work out one way or another. Could take another 6-12 months yet, but hopefully we'll make it there before I start going grey from the stress.
Thanks for all the support I've had via comments and on twitter through all this. In the scheme of things I know it won't matter much (I hope). SJ and I are very happy together and we both have our health, money and careers aren't as important as that.
Bugger! I still have my fingers tightly crossed for you. There are still options; it's not over til the fat lady sings. And I haven't sung yet! ;)
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating. I went through something similar earlier this year - in hindsight I'm glad I didn't get the job. I hope you get some more positive news soon!

That's very annoying for you but I'm sure everything will work itself out in the end for you.
ReplyDeleteI have everything crossed for you and SJ!
ReplyDeleteSorry you didn't get the role but hopefully things work out.
ReplyDelete*fingers crossed for you*
ReplyDeleteDon't give up! And good luck for the future roles! You're right, Health needs to be above all - Money or careers wont exist without it!

Crossing my fingers for you. Hope all works out for you sooner rather than later. :)
ReplyDeleteOh no, sorry you didn't get the job - I was wondering about this just the other day. Hopefully something else pops up soon and it will all work out. Keeping my fingers crossed for you x
ReplyDeleteThat sucks! Don't worry though, my partner missed out on a few seemingly good roles before he landed his current one which he loves and actually offered the best pay and opportunities. Sometimes its just meant to be. Good luck with job hunting!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the job hun :( That sucks so bad, but it just leaves room for better opportunities in the future.. You know what they say, when a door is closed you open the window and stuff like that. Still doesn't stop it from sucking, but stuff will get better.
ReplyDeleteWhat do the grey vs black crosses mean?
Oh that sucks! But, my fingers are still crossed that things will look up for you soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope that something comes up that will enable you both to stay in the same state!
I was super sure that I commented?! Maybe I have lost my marbles.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed! And I am sure that something better that suits both of you will come along very soon!
